Site Rules:
Pet policy: Companion animals are welcome at Outlandish, but it’s important to recognize that owners should be prepared to meet their needs on site. The staff has drafted guidelines so that owners may be prepared to keep their companions safe and protected during the event. Animal waste should be bagged and disposed of in trash containers onsite. Companions must be on leash with their owner (or designated attendant), or safely contained in their campsite. They may be crated or penned, with pens allowing them sufficient room to stand, turn around, and lie down freely. If tethered, tethers should be no longer than 12’, out of public traffic, and tangle proof. All shelters should provide ample shade and protection from the elements, and have fresh water accessible. All animals at Outlandish shall wear identification bearing the name of their owner and camp at all times. Owners should have proof of current rabies vaccine with them as well. Given the wooded nature of the site, the staff recommends that animals have preventative treatment for ticks and fleas. Quiet hours are from 10pm to 8am, and companions should be quiet during that time. If you have questions or concerns, please address them to Kolfinna. Other event attendees who have concerns about the care of an animal at the event should address those concerns to Security, who will speak with the owner in question.
Rules of the road: Due to limited volunteers and the distance to the property gate there will not always be staff available to watch the road to the site. The entry way to the property is a relatively steep and narrow road with a blind corner at the top by the gate. Traffic coming from the site will have a better view of the hillside and potential traffic coming in, but drivers coming onsite AND leaving the site should be aware of the area to avoid a potential conflict. There is very little room to pass on that short portion of road. Drivers coming down the hill (onto the property) will have the right of way as they cannot easily see who might be coming up the hill when they start on the road. Please be courteous and avoid someone having to back up or down a winding hillside.
There will be a sign on the road when leaving the site notifying drivers to look to the right up the hill. That will be the best place to view traffic just entering the gate.
Parking: Parking will be available along the entry road as far back as is necessary. Cactus has been mostly cleared along the roadway, but it is advisable to exit your vehicle and check the spaces you plan to enter for surprises before parking. Please try to clear the road as much as possible to allow clear entry for other vehicles, and please park as close to your neighbor as practical so that we can get everyone in without having cars lined up all the way back to town.
Handicap parking will be available closer to the site if required. Please check in at the gate, but there should be room past the gate along the old road up into the valley. Please see the map for details.
Campers, Trailers, and RVs: The road into the site has a relatively narrow and steep portion at the beginning. There is a gate in the middle of a 180 degree, fairly tight turn with a steep drop-off just past the gate. At the moment we are recommending no long campers or towed vehicles over 25’ in length. The concern is not only for the safety of the owner of the longer trailer but for the folks who might be trapped onsite if someone gets stuck trying to get in or out of the gate. There is only one passable road to the site. Anyone with a longer camper should contact Erik to discuss and/or try to come out and inspect the site before showing up. If you have driven a long trailer or camper to this site in the past, please feel free to contact Erik to discuss. We don’t want to limit anyone’s options, but we need to think about everyone’s safety. NOTE: In years past there was an alternate entrance from the south. That road is no longer accessible, so if you remember bringing a camper or longer trailer be aware that the new road may not be as passable as what you recall.
Camping:
Camping is allowed in the forested areas of the property. Please do not cross any fence lines onto other private properties. If you camp out of the meadow area please clean your site carefully and don’t leave anything in the trees.
NOTE: Be kind to wildlife and the natural habitat on-site. Please refrain from killing trees, yucca, ants, and other wildlife. Please give the ants something to keep them busy (apples or the like) and do not poison them. You may remove cactus from your campsite area, but please leave the yuccas alone. You may flatten the earth for camping, but remember that the natural grass and its roots keep the soil from erosion. Let’s keep the site beautiful for the owners and for our future use!
Bring your own water. Limited water will be made available for the fighters, but there will not be a large source of water available onsite.
Fire policy: No wood burning campfires are permitted onsite. There are currently 8 stone fire-pits in the valley area in which propane fire-pits with a cut-off switch may be used. Additional fire-pits may be created using stone from the site. If you wish to create one in your camping area please come to one of the remaining site-prep work-days and contact Erik about setting it up. Bring fire extinguishers!
